Quick Answer
The HISTORIX Paint Set from Scale75 is a versatile collection for historical miniature painting, covering eras from Ancient to Wild West. It's a practical choice if you paint a variety of historical periods and want a ready-to-use palette.
Why a Multi-Era Set Makes Sense
Historical miniature painting often spans multiple periods, and each era has its own iconic color schemes. A set that includes paints for Ancient, Middle Age, Modern Era, and Wild West subjects lets you switch projects without buying separate sets.
This versatility is especially useful for historical wargaming, where you might field armies from different periods. Instead of maintaining a large collection, you can rely on a single set to cover most of your needs.
Considering the Trade-Offs
While the HISTORIX Paint Set offers broad coverage, it may not include every specific shade you need for a particular uniform or heraldic detail. You might still need to supplement with individual paints for very particular colors.
Also, if you only paint one era, a dedicated set might be more cost-effective. But for most hobbyists who enjoy variety, the included colors are a solid starting point.
Decision Rules for the HISTORIX Paint Set
- If you paint multiple historical periods: The HISTORIX Paint Set is a strong choice because its colors cover Ancient, Middle Age, Modern Era, and Wild West themes, reducing the need for extra purchases.
- If you focus on a single era: Consider whether the included colors match your specific needs. You might find that a specialized set or individual paints better suit your palette. Check your project's color list against the set's contents before buying.
- If you want a versatile starter palette: This set provides a broad range of historical wargaming colors, making it a practical foundation for beginners or hobbyists expanding into historical miniatures. Use the set as your base and add individual colors only when a specific shade is missing.
