Learn how to fix separation and poor coverage with Iñigo paint from SCALE75. Simple diagnosis and corrective steps for miniature painters.
Quick answer
If your Iñigo paint separates or struggles to cover, the fix is simple: thorough stirring, correct thinning, and proper primer use. This guide walks you through each step.
Why Iñigo paint may separate
Iñigo is a high-quality resin-based 1/10 scale figure paint. Like many unpainted miniature paints, separation can happen if the bottle sits unused for a while. The pigments settle, leaving a clear binder on top. This is normal and not a defect.
Coverage challenges with brown tones
Brown paints, including the tones in Iñigo, sometimes need extra coats for full opacity. This is common with earth tones and not a sign of poor quality. Thin layers build up better than one thick coat.
Diagnosis and fix steps
- Symptom: Paint looks watery or clear on top, with pigment settled at the bottom.
- Likely cause: Pigment settling from storage or lack of shaking. Common with resin-based paints.
- Corrective action: Stir thoroughly with a toothpick or mixing ball. Shake the bottle for 30 seconds. If still thin, add a drop of flow improver or matte medium. Apply in thin, even coats over a primed surface. Test on a spare sprue or palette before applying to the figure.
- When to stop or choose another option: If after stirring and thinning the paint still beads up or fails to cover after 3 coats, the surface may need a different primer (e.g., a light gray or white base for brown tones). If beads persist, the paint may be contaminated—discard and start fresh.
